Welcome to "Road to Success: Data Science & AI Training and Internship," a comprehensive program designed to equip high school students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the rapidly evolving fields of data science and artificial intelligence. Led by Dr. Jay Zhou, a seasoned data scientist and entrepreneur with over 20 years of industry experience, this program aims to empower the next generation of innovators.
Our journey begins with an exploration of thinking and decision making, where we delve into the fascinating differences between human intelligence and artificial intelligence. Through engaging examples and interactive games, we highlight common flaws in human cognition and intuition, setting the stage for a deeper understanding of data-driven thinking.
We then introduce data science and AI with captivating real-world stories, showcasing the advantages of data-driven thinking over human intuition. Students will learn what data is and its fundamental building blocks, providing a solid foundation for further exploration.
In the subsequent sections, students will learn to interact with data by asking creative questions, much like conversing with friends. Essential tools such as spreadsheets, SQL, and Python will be introduced, demonstrating how to use them for basic data tasks.
The program also covers the fundamental concepts of data visualization, teaching students how to uncover and understand relationships within data to derive useful insights and drive better decisions.
Building on this knowledge, we will explore the creation of machine learning and AI models, with practical demonstrations and real-world examples of their significant impact.
Generative AI tools like ChatGPT will also be featured, illustrating how they can simplify data-related tasks and enhance efficiency. We emphasize the importance of imagination and creativity in proposing questions and finding innovative solutions.
Finally, students will be encouraged to propose their own problems and use data-driven tools to solve them. This hands-on project approach reinforces learning and promotes creative thinking. Outside the classroom, students will spend about 2 hours weekly working on realistic projects to solidify their understanding and application of data science concepts. They will present their work in class and engage in discussions.
By the end of the course, students will have a foundational understanding of data science and AI, equipped with practical skills and a data-driven mindset. Our program fosters students' communication skills and confidence in presenting in a group setting, preparing them for academic and career success.
Join us on this exciting journey and take the first step towards a successful future in data science and AI!
How is this program different? Our program focuses on fundamental principles and a data-driven mindset, not just technical skills. Unlike other programs that emphasize technica details like Python, which can become obsolete, Dr. Jay Zhou teaches timeless principles and data-driven thinking that benefit students lifelong.
How is the program structured? The program includes a 1-hour meeting each week, mostly online, with the instructor. Students are expected to spend 2 to 3 hours working on projects outside of class.
